The end of the semester has been a dead run in our household. At work I’m operating like a sort of textiles magician, brandishing bodkins and thimbles from my pockets, rethreading sergers with muscle memory, saying “you can rip those stitches out and redo them” even when no one wants to hear it because it’s due in ten minutes, okay. I like the hubbub and the urgency, and I get home half asleep on my feet. More to come, after rest.
I have some things to share:
How To Glean a Quilt, my quilting class through MIAD’s continuing education program, is running again this February. Registration is open through January 9th, you can sign up here! If you took the class last year and want to take it again I will help you make a bed sized quilt, or whatever your next quilting aspiration is.
There is a nice article in Pride Source, the queer rag of my homeland, about Quilts as art, protest and connection. I loved talking with Eryn for this piece, and I got to read it on the train as we trundled through SW MI.
In lieu of a gift guide here is Robin Wall Kimmerer talking about the gift economy (scroll down to Practical Reverence). If you are pining for a lesbian gift guide don’t fret, Maddy made one with wool socks and beeswax candles on it and it made me laugh a lot (the real gift!).

P.S. Thank you, to all of you who have remained and become paying subscribers as I’ve experimented with making this newsletter public and with writing and getting it out while transitioning to working 40 hours a week. What a change it’s been! I’m so grateful to you for sticking with me. Here’s to more frequency in the new year.
"I’m totally biased, but I think the Midwest is the most beautiful place in the world.”
Me, too, Grace.
I enjoyed the article in PrideSource. Thanks for linking to it.
Sending hugs. The adjustment to out of homw- not self propelled work is a tricky one I have also been navigating. Although it's a bit more erratic than yours by the sound of it. I'm happy to still have your writings here when you have time for it. And thanks for the boring lesbian gift link. My partner and I have been chuckling in recognition.
Take care. X
